Role Overview
Lead and manage research and development, product design, testing, technology adoption, value addition, and cost reduction activities.
Support production and customer needs through timely and accurate R&D delivery aligned with company KPIs.
Team Leadership
- Lead the R&D team and improve the activities of the R&D function.
- Develop training plans and support employee development, engagement, and motivation.
- Manage team performance, address performance issues, and improve skill gaps.
Budgets and Planning
- Participate in strategic planning and long-term organizational planning for R&D and new product development.
- Lead budget preparation and adherence with a focus on cost-saving initiatives.
- Analyze actual spending against budget and prepare periodic reports.
Product Development
- Manage the full R&D process from product concept and prototype preparation through laboratory testing and final product approval.
- Assess new product requirements based on market needs with Sales, Marketing, and selected customers.
- Improve the product range based on food processing technology trends and phase out obsolete products.
- Coordinate developed products with Sales, Operations, Purchasing, and other concerned departments.
Testing and Design
- Oversee laboratory testing and coordinate product design, testing, and validation activities.
- Review, verify, and validate new products for conformity to requirements and fitness for use.
- Oversee evaluation of new components with Purchasing and Quality Assurance.
- Establish design reviews to simplify manufacturing, reduce cost, and support standardization.
Reporting and Technology
- Assist with company catalogues and brochures and submit periodic R&D progress reports to management.
- Issue periodic updates on new product trends to concerned departments.
- Keep laboratory facilities up to date with current technology and oversee food processing activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or Veterinary Science.
- At least 10 years of experience in research and development in the food or FMCG field.
