Process Safety Engineer

Job Summary

Process Safety Management

• Promote and comply with QAFCO occupational health and safety, environmental, quality, Responsible Care, product stewardship, and PSM requirements.
• Develop documents and implement activities for monitoring and following up the Process Safety Management System.
• Develop company process safety specifications and standards for projects and asset operations.
• Partner with operations and technical teams to meet PSM requirements and apply valid standards and engineering practices.

Standards, Procurement, and Coordination

• Lead the company-wide network for developing and updating process safety requirements and procedures.
• Provide equipment and service specifications, evaluate bids, and recommend suppliers based on process safety requirements.
• Coordinate Process Safety group activities and lead campaigns promoting process safety.
• Develop process safety objectives, targets, strategies, measures, and risk-mitigation plans.

Reporting and Risk Studies

• Develop leading indicators and track PSM progress through weekly and monthly reporting.
• Participate in HAZOP, SIL, QRA, LOPA, FMEA, MHA/DHA, safety case, and dispersion studies.
• Coordinate safety activities with operations and project teams within schedule, specification, and cost requirements.
• Lead or participate in process safety incident investigations and communicate lessons learned.

Continuous Improvement

• Develop recommendations for process changes that mitigate, control, or eliminate process-related hazards.
• Monitor technological developments and good practices to recommend effectiveness improvements and cost reductions.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering.
• At least eight years of successful experience in a similar process safety position.
• Extensive process safety experience in fertilizer, petrochemical, or oil and gas operations.
• Excellent supervisory skills and knowledge of Process Safety Management codes, standards, and recommended practices.
• Good engineering judgment, hazard assessment ability, analytical skills, organization, initiative, and attention to detail.
• Good English communication and technical report writing skills.
• Relevant NEBOSH, process safety, incident investigation, root cause analysis, or PHA certifications are desirable.
