Role overview

Work model

• The role uses a hybrid work model with a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Responsibilities

• Manage the PostgreSQL database cluster across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Monitor and tune databases for performance.
• Migrate data structures across database instances, including offline environments.
• Own data models and manage the lifecycle of PostgreSQL data.
• Work with data pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest data sources.
• Manage roles, permissions, security controls, and row-level security.
• Configure database installations and manage patching with infrastructure teams.

Required technical skills

• Strong PostgreSQL DBA experience in development, maintenance, and performance optimization.
• Experience with sharding, partitioning, clustering, and database failover strategies.
• Oracle or MSSQL experience is required, including latest-version Oracle experience where applicable.
• Experience designing and managing schemas, tables, and views.
• Experience with index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimization, backup strategies, and data partitioning.
• Understanding of JSON storage practices in PostgreSQL.
• Extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, and AGE are useful.

Eligibility

• SC eligibility is required as a minimum, with DV clearance as a target.
• Applicants must have lived and worked continuously in the UK for the past 5–7 years.
