Role Overview
National Reference Laboratory is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing.
The role provides patient-centred care to patients of all ages while following organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and laboratory quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and other blood collection procedures for pediatric, adult, pregnant, and geriatric patients.
- Verify patient information and test requests and select appropriate collection equipment and techniques.
- Collect, label, process, store, and prepare blood, urine, and other specimens accurately and safely.
- Ensure sample quality and quantity while following infection control, aseptic, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Prioritize and manage STAT, scheduled, and outpatient specimen collection requests.
- Explain collection procedures to patients and provide guidance on specimen collection requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation and report significant patient or specimen-related issues to the healthcare team.
- Maintain supplies and support regulatory, accreditation, quality, and safety compliance.
Qualifications
- Complete an approved Phlebotomy certification program and/or a minimum six-month program in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
