Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and revise engineering drawings, floor plans, construction details, and specifications for manufactured homes.
- Ensure manufactured home designs comply with applicable HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (24 CFR Part 3280).
- Maintain working knowledge of IRC and IBC requirements and determine their applicability to projects.
- Review structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety requirements as applicable.
- Assist with engineering calculations and design requirements for structural components, including floors, walls, roofs, framing, foundations, and connections.
- Review plans and production changes for code compliance before implementation.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Purchasing, Service, and Management to resolve engineering and construction issues.
- Provide technical guidance to production personnel regarding drawings, specifications, materials, and approved construction methods.
- Investigate production or field issues and develop practical, code-compliant solutions.
- Review material substitutions and design changes to determine whether engineering approval or additional documentation is required.
- Maintain accurate engineering drawings, revisions, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with inspections, audits, approvals, and compliance documentation related to manufactured housing.
- Stay current on changes to HUD requirements, IRC, IBC, and other applicable building and safety standards.
- Help ensure production-built homes remain consistent with approved plans, specifications, and engineering requirements.
- Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in manufactured housing, residential construction, modular construction, or a closely related field.
- Strong working knowledge of: HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards 24 CFR Part 3280 International Residential Code (IRC) International Building Code (IBC)

- Ability to read, interpret, create, and revise construction and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of residential structural systems and construction methods.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, supervisors, managers, inspectors, and other technical personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous engineering experience specifically within a manufactured home manufacturing facility.
- Experience with CAD/design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar programs.
- Experience working with third-party inspection agencies, Design Approval Primary Inspection Agencies (DAPIAs), or Production Inspection Primary Inspection Agencies (IPIAs).
- Familiarity with state and local requirements affecting manufactured and modular housing.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred but not required unless necessary for assigned responsibilities.

Work Environment
This position will work in both an office and manufacturing plant environment. The engineer will regularly interact with production departments and may be required to walk the production floor to inspect construction methods, investigate issues, verify measurements, and assist with engineering-related questions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and stand throughout a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to climb steps or ladders when necessary to inspect construction.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and access areas of homes under construction as needed.
- Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment and active production areas.
