This role oversees the design, installation, maintenance, and daily operation of a multi-studio educational production environment aligned with industry standards and curriculum needs.
Managing a team of production specialists, the role leads equipment lifecycle planning, including capital replacement, preventative maintenance, and asset tracking for a large-scale inventory.
It also establishes facility policies, training protocols, and equipment authorization systems that support student learning and faculty instruction across journalism and communication programs.
In close collaboration with faculty, the Manager integrates production resources into coursework and supports a high volume of student productions.
The role also oversees live event production and institutional video deliverables, providing multi-camera coverage and content for major university initiatives.
Reporting to the Director of Production and Digital Media, the Manager leads vendor relations, procurement, and technology implementation, including advancing workflows such as 4K production.
The role ensures continuity of operations during disruptions by adapting production models to support academic needs, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Strategic Planning
- Recommends purchases and capital equipment.
- Partners with NU-Q stakeholders on equipment and studio needs to ensure equipment and facilities meet the needs of the NU-Q academic programs.
- Advises the Director of Production and Digital Media on equipment, operations, staff allocation, budgets and scalability.
Development
- Manages and coordinates Production and Digital Media projects across organization units.
- Works closely with the Manager of Broadcast Engineering and Production Coordinator on production field equipment and studio operations.
Performance
- Oversees enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of production field equipment and studio facilities.
Supervises
- Provides work direction and/or supervises staff such as team members, subordinates, contractors, vendors, students, etc.
- Recommends staff hires/terminations.
- Coaches and mentors staff.
- Manages projects ensuring timelines and deliverables are met and meet expectations.
- Organizes and performs technical training on production field equipment, studio lighting, control room operation and studio camera operation and postproduction software and hardware for NU-Q faculty, staff and students.
- Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Ikegami Studio Cameras, ETC Lighting infrastructure, Red Digital Cinema Cameras, Field Production Lighting, sound, grip equipment and Project Management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as communications, film/tv production, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years in a production technical management role or other relevant experience within a Film, TV, or production company is required.
- Fluency in English language
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of video production equipment and practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of video editing software Adobe Premiere
- Ability to use both PC and Mac applications.
- Ability to work closely with students and student employees.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Ability to manage a multidisciplinary technical team.
- Ability to lift/move equipment up to 20Kg (approx. 44.0 Lbs.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of a master’s degree in an accredited college or university in a major such as communications, film/tv production, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 15+ years in a production technical management role or other relevant experience within a Film, TV, or production company.
- Experience working within an educational environment.
- Knowledge of Middle East culture and customs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of field production within in a film/tv environment.
- Knowledge of equipment rental and hiring processes.
- Knowledge of current digital cinema audio and video standards and workflows.
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Ikegami Studio Cameras, ETC Lighting infrastructure, Red Digital Cinema Cameras, Field Production Lighting, sound, grip equipment and Project Management.
- The target budgeted salary for this position is $89,129 to $111,411 annually.
