Position Summary

The role provides expert service and support for high-tech laboratory research equipment, with a focus on MOCVD and deposition instruments.

The senior specialist performs repairs, maintenance, calibrations, and alignments, mentors junior personnel, and delivers user training.

The role aims to maximize equipment uptime while minimizing maintenance costs and follows guidelines from maintenance leadership.

Major Responsibilities

  • Respond to maintenance and troubleshooting requests and complete assigned work promptly and to a high standard.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules with end users and maintain productive relationships with equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Diagnose equipment problems with operators, manufacturers, and agents and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Identify spare parts, optimize stock levels, and assist with ordering processes.
  • Coordinate vendor visits, maximize in-house maintenance, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Mentor junior personnel and instruct end users on equipment operation and preventive maintenance.
  • Communicate clearly with end users and provide occasional value-added training sessions.
  • Comply with HSE requirements, maintain safe work practices, and report safety concerns.
  • Participate in process-improvement projects that improve efficiency and automation.
  • Work with maintenance leads and perform additional related duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Troubleshooting ability for major electrical and mechanical components of research instruments and equipment.
  • Professional customer service skills, urgency, problem solving, and analytical ability.
  • Ability to manage varied workloads under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership ability, teamwork, flexibility, and clear communication.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural international environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and development of high-quality standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Factory service training for relevant equipment classes.
  • Proficiency using a computerized maintenance management system such as SAP.
  • Training in ISO 9001:2015, Six Sigma, or Lean principles is listed as an additional qualification.

Experience

  • At least seven years of field service or in-house maintenance engineering experience involving service-level maintenance and repairs on deposition equipment.
  • Experience with MOCVD, PVD, coaters, abatement equipment, or comparable deposition systems.
  • Experience with manufacturers including Aixtron, Angstrom, DAS Engineering, MBRAUN, Oxford Instruments, Neocera, PVD Products, Riber, TNS, or Veeco.

Workplace and Schedule

  • The role involves field service work and activity at laboratory and workshop sites.
  • The position may require extended hours when needed and adherence to site and workshop safety requirements.
