NiSource is seeking a Summer IT Software Engineer Intern for a 12-week program starting in May 2027.

The program is intended for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027.

The role is based in Columbus, Ohio, or Merrillville, Indiana, and requires residence within 50 miles of the reporting location.

Interns work with teams and leaders on meaningful projects while participating in professional development and team-building activities.

Potential IT assignments

  • Enterprise Architecture develops technology strategy, roadmaps, standards, and implementation guidelines.
  • IT Services supports application and infrastructure service delivery, including hardware and software asset and configuration management.
  • Infrastructure supports network technical design, operational processes, infrastructure projects, and ITIL-based practices.
  • IT Security supports security incident resolution, threat preparation, vulnerability awareness, and cyber incident response exercises.
  • IT Applications supports application development, system administration, system interfaces, and application lifecycle activities.
  • Business Analytics uses data discovery, modeling, visualization, cleansing, and structuring to provide business insights.

Required qualifications

  • Be pursuing a degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, or mathematics.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and at least one year of undergraduate study completed.
  • Have experience with cloud, software development, data analytics, automation, or enterprise technologies.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, quality focus, communication, planning, organization, and analytical problem-solving.
  • Have computer, operating system, mobile device, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project skills.
  • Be able to work 40 hours per week and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
