Job Summary

  • Kingston Education Training Centre seeks an experienced Guest Lecturer in Pastry Arts to deliver engaging theoretical and practical training sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver interactive classroom and practical kitchen sessions in Pastry Arts.
  • Teach pastry fundamentals including dough preparation, cakes, pastries, breads, cookies, tarts, desserts, chocolate work, confectionery, and plated desserts.
  • Demonstrate professional pastry techniques, baking methods, decorating skills, and proper use of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Train learners in recipe preparation, ingredient measurement, food presentation, portion control, and quality standards.
  • Instruct learners on food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
  • Prepare lesson plans, recipes, instructional materials, demonstrations, and practical activities.
  • Supervise practical kitchen sessions and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assess learner performance through practical assessments, projects, and skill demonstrations.
  • Encourage creativity, teamwork, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Incorporate current pastry trends, sustainable practices, and modern techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, Diploma, Professional Certification, or equivalent in Pastry Arts, Baking and Pastry, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or in a commercial pastry or bakery environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pastry production, baking techniques, cake decoration, dessert preparation, and commercial kitchen operations.
  • Previous teaching, lecturing, training, mentoring, apprenticeship supervision, or instructional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical pastry and baking techniques in a hands on training environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications in Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, Baking, or Food Safety (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe).
  • Experience working in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, pastry shops, catering operations, or hospitality establishments.
  • Experience delivering vocational, professional, or culinary training programs.
  • Knowledge of artisan breads, viennoiserie, chocolate work, sugar craft, plated desserts, and modern pastry techniques.
  • Experience preparing learners for professional culinary or pastry certifications.
