Geospatial Analyst

Bachelor’s degree in geography, geomatics, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial data science, epidemiology, public health, environmental science, data science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

A minimum of five years’ work experience with GIS and geospatial analysis.

Advanced knowledge of enterprise and open-source GIS and geospatial analytics platforms, with experience in spatial analysis, web mapping, scripting, automation, application development, APIs, and relevant programming and query languages.

Experience with PHO-supported technologies such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Python, SQL, and R is an asset.

Oral, written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills to translate complex geospatial findings into clear, accessible insights for technical, non-technical, and executive audiences.

Consultation, facilitation, and presentation skills to gather requirements, explain analytical methods and limitations, and communicate findings and recommendations through reports, maps, dashboards, interactive products, and presentations.

Develops collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and deliver responsive geospatial analytics and decision-support services for public health priorities, population health issues, and emerging health threats.

Responds to requests for geospatial analysis, visualization, data, metadata, and related documentation, clarifying the intended use and appropriate analytical approach.

Defines client needs, requirements, deliverables, success criteria, and application requirements for geospatial initiatives.

Coordinates assigned geospatial initiatives through planning, delivery, and evaluation to support timely, fit-for purpose results and stakeholder satisfaction.

Advises on the application of geospatial analytics to surveillance, population health and health system assessment, health equity, program and service planning, resource allocation, and response to emerging health threats.

Assesses stakeholder information and analytical requirements and selects appropriate methods for analyzing, visualizing, and communicating spatial information to support public health planning, surveillance, resource allocation, service access, and response activities.

Evaluates available data sources, analytical methods, assumptions, and limitations to determine their suitability for public health use.

Determines how spatial and non-spatial data can be linked, analyzed, and presented to generate actionable insights on public health priorities, population health issues, and emerging health threats.

Delivers accurate, timely, and fit-for-purpose geospatial analyses and decision-support products that inform surveillance, population and health system assessment, health equity, climate and environmental health, service planning, resource allocation, and response to emerging health threats.

Generates spatial insights on patterns, trends, access, inequities, populations, and environmental and social determinants to support evidence-informed public health planning and action.

Provides geospatial subject matter expertise and project leadership within cross-functional teams and initiatives.

Builds team capability through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge exchange on geospatial methods, tools, and interpretation.
