Company

Qualcomm Canada ULC is part of Qualcomm, a technology company focused on AI, high-performance computing, low-power computing, and connectivity.

Qualcomm's early-career programs provide mentorship, technical development, and project experience across global technology teams.

Program and Role Overview

Qualcomm is recruiting its 2027 intern class in Markham, Canada.

The Compute DSP/AI Processor team seeks ASIC design and verification engineering interns to develop hardware IP and subsystems for machine learning applications.

No prior AI or machine learning application background is required; interns will learn hardware design and verification techniques.

This application expresses interest in multiple 2027 AI and machine learning hardware engineering internships rather than one specific role.

Potential Responsibilities

  • Implement hardware modules using SystemVerilog, HLS C/C++, or SystemC.
  • Develop module- and subsystem-level tests using UVM and SystemVerilog.
  • Integrate modules into larger subsystems and define interface requirements.
  • Build reference and bus-functional models using C++, SystemC, or Python.
  • Automate design and verification processes using Python, Perl, or TCL.
  • Support synthesis, static timing closure, silicon debug, power analysis, and post-silicon correlation.
  • Contribute across ASIC specification, microarchitecture, RTL coding, verification, synthesis, optimization, and physical design.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of digital logic and digital design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Availability

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Available for 16 months from May 2027 through August 2028.
  • Expected graduation date is November 2028 or later.
  • At least one year of academic experience with programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant academic, personal project, or industry experience.
  • Knowledge of computer and multimedia architecture and digital design building blocks.
  • Knowledge of ASIC design and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of Verilog/VHDL, HLS C/C++, SystemVerilog, or SystemC.
  • Knowledge of UVM, assertions, or coverage-driven constrained-random verification.
  • Knowledge of Python, Perl, TCL, Shell, or version control tools such as Git or ClearCase.

Internship Program

  • Interns receive mentorship, manager support, professional development workshops, social events, and cross-functional speaker sessions.
  • The program includes competitive hourly pay, accrued vacation time, and a housing stipend.

Application Process

  • Resumes are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and advancing candidates may be invited to complete a timed HackerRank assessment.
