Job Description

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals, and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

DePuy Synthes is recruiting an Environmental Materials and EPR Program Compliance Manager to lead global Product Stewardship compliance for electrical and electronic equipment, e-waste, batteries, packaging, plastics, environmental reporting, fees, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) take-back schemes. This role translates regulatory requirements into practical business solutions and partners with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, R&D, Supply Chain, Supplier Management, Packaging, Sustainability, Government Affairs & Policy, Commercial, and Legal.

Key Responsibilities

· Serve as the global SME for materials compliance and EPR requirements, including but not limited to EEE, WEEE, e-waste, batteries, packaging, plastics, reporting, registrations, fees, and take-back schemes.

· Monitor and interpret emerging global requirements; lead impact assessments and translate findings into actionable business plans and clear stakeholder guidance.

· Maintain regulatory trackers, compliance dashboards, metrics, inventories, and leadership updates.

· Identify data gaps and lead the collection, validation, governance, reporting, and retention of materials and EPR data, including improvements to supporting technology.

· Coordinate with regional affiliates and business partners to complete registrations, reports, fees, and other compliance obligations on time.

· Lead Materials and EPR Communities of Practice, training, action tracking, and representation in enterprise or industry working groups.

· Partner with Government Affairs & Policy, trade associations, and industry groups on advocacy and company positions.

· Develop and maintain policies, procedures, work instructions, and best practices.

· Support audits, inspections, assessments, information requests, corrective actions, customer inquiries, acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations.

· Provide practical SME support and drive continuous improvement across compliance processes.

Qualifications and Education

· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, EHS, Regulatory Affairs, Life Sciences, Data Science, or a related discipline is required.

· Advanced degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

· 6–8 years of progressive experience in Product Stewardship, environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related field.

· Strong knowledge of global materials compliance and EPR requirements, with experience implementing regulatory programs in industry.

· Ability to interpret emerging regulations, assess business impact, and translate technical requirements into executable plans and clear communications.

· Experience with regulatory data, reporting, dashboards, documentation, and technology-enabled compliance solutions.

· Strong project and program management skills, including governance, metrics, and action tracking.

· Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage priorities, solve problems, and maintain attention to detail.

· Strong influencing, facilitation, collaboration, writing, and presentation skills in a global matrixed organization.

· English proficiency.

Preferred:

· Experience in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or another highly regulated industry.

· Experience with advocacy, trade associations, audits, inspections, compliance assessments, or corrective actions.

· Familiarity with sustainability, circular economy, and environmental reporting.

· Experience supporting global portfolios, acquisitions, or divestitures.

Other

· Travel: Up to 10%, including occasional international collaboration.

· Certifications: RAC, environmental compliance, or sustainability certification preferred.
