The Emergency Services Dispatcher works under the supervision of the Emergency Dispatcher Lead.
The role primarily functions as a call-taker telecommunicator for fire and emergency services responses.
Responsibilities
- Receive, record, and manage requests for fire and emergency services responses.
- Dispatch emergency personnel to situations requiring critical response.
- Read posted orders to determine personnel requirements and notify personnel of assignments or instruction changes by telephone or radio.
- Post assignment information on the dispatch board.
- Issue regular and special equipment to emergency personnel when required.
- Contact emergency personnel to verify assignment locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required, and a copy of the diploma must be provided.
- IFSAC or ProBoard Telecommunicator II certification is required.
- IFSAC or ProBoard Hazardous Materials Awareness certification is required.
- At least two years of experience as a fire department emergency services dispatcher is required.
- Candidates must communicate clearly by radio and telephone, record and report information accurately, and read, write, and speak English fluently.
Working Conditions
- The role may involve extreme weather with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The work environment may be indoors or outdoors in hot, dry, dusty, desert, and industrial production conditions.
- The role involves light work and may require personal protective equipment for head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protection.
- Employees must comply with fire and safety regulations and post policies.
