Embedded Systems Engineer | Firmware Engineer

Role Overview

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers, processors, and intelligent electronic devices.
• Translate requirements into firmware specifications and technical designs.
• Develop low-level firmware, hardware abstraction layers, and peripheral drivers.
• Integrate firmware with hardware and troubleshoot hardware-firmware integration issues.
• Implement I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and wireless interfaces where applicable.
• Develop real-time applications and configure microcontroller peripherals, timers, interrupts, DMA, GPIO, ADC, and PWM.
• Debug firmware using JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other tools.
• Analyze and optimize performance, memory usage, power consumption, reliability, and resource utilization.
• Develop unit, integration, functional, system-level, automated, and hardware-in-the-loop tests.
• Support prototypes, engineering builds, product verification, production testing, deployments, and product updates.
• Investigate field issues and defects, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Manage source code and releases, maintain technical documentation, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications

• A diploma or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
• Professional embedded systems, firmware engineering, embedded software, or electronic product development experience is required.
• Strong C and C++ programming experience is required.
• Candidates need knowledge of microcontroller architecture, embedded memory, interrupts, timers, peripherals, and real-time processing.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M, ARM Cortex-A, or other embedded processor architectures is required.
• Strong knowledge of hardware communication protocols and experience with development environments, compilers, debuggers, and flashing tools are required.
• Git proficiency, schematic and datasheet interpretation, and electronic test-equipment experience are required.
• Device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, RTOS, embedded Linux, low-power design, secure boot, and embedded cybersecurity are preferred or advantageous.

Technical Skills

• The role uses C, C++, microcontrollers, ARM processors, RTOS environments, embedded Linux, communication protocols, debugging tools, version control, and automated testing.
• Relevant test equipment includes oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers, and SWD debuggers.
