Position Summary

The Facilities Electrician supports the operational integrity, safety, and reliability of electrical systems within managed facilities.

The role combines preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and installation of new electrical infrastructure.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform preventive maintenance on panelboards, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, and emergency power systems.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using schematics, blueprints, multimeters, ammeters, and other testing equipment.
  • Repair and replace circuit breakers, relays, switches, fuses, wiring, and other electrical components.
  • Maintain interior, exterior, and emergency lighting systems.
  • Service electrical components of HVAC systems, pumps, motors, conveyors, and commercial kitchen equipment.

Installation and Projects

  • Install, conduit, wire, and terminate circuits for equipment relocations, office reconfigurations, and facility upgrades.
  • Read blueprints, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams to plan and execute work.
  • Assist with small-to-medium electrical renovation projects.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow National Electrical Code, OSHA, and company-specific safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures to establish a zero-energy state before work begins.
  • Record maintenance and repair work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Inspect systems for code compliance and safety hazards and report findings to management.

Emergency Response

  • Respond to after-hours electrical emergencies, including power outages, equipment failures, and critical system alarms, as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues quickly to minimize downtime and operational disruption.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid state Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of commercial or industrial electrician experience.
  • Experience in facilities maintenance, plant maintenance, or a similar setting.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and OSHA safety standards.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with low-voltage systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, Variable Frequency Drives, building automation, energy management systems, or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is preferred.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour certification is preferred.

Technical Skills and Work Environment

Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for electrical work.

Work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.

Understand three-phase power, distribution systems, and motor controls.

The role requires communication skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
