Role Overview

The Electrical Power Production Technician installs, operates, and modifies electrical generating plants and ground or mobile power generation equipment.

The role performs electrical power control, distribution, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and operating procedure development.

Essential Job Functions

  • Install and operate electrical power plants, distribution equipment, and automatic transfer panels.
  • Inspect equipment for serviceability and position engines, generators, switchgear, compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Inspect, test, service, and adjust generator systems, including safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, pumps, regulators, and gauges.
  • Operate high-voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, switchboards, and distribution panels.
  • Maintain and repair generating equipment and automatic transfer panels.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions, inspect parts, replace defective components, and use precision test equipment.
  • Test and calibrate repaired items, inspect gauges and meters, and bench-check components.
  • Review performance data and maintenance records to determine maintenance adequacy.
  • Study drawings and schematics, develop procedures, maintain records, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform corrosion control, comply with environmental policies, and perform other required duties.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least five years of experience operating and maintaining engines, generators, and electric power distribution components is required.
  • Experience must include a variety of makes and models of power production equipment.
  • Task-certified 5-Level AAS Power Pro certification is required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of electrical generation, conversion, transformation, distribution, and utilization.
  • Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage circuits, switches, fuses, relays, instruments, and meters.
  • Ability to interpret instrument readings, wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical publications.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, generators, distribution panels, test equipment, safety practices, and environmental policies.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-up, multitasking, customer service, and written and verbal communication are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.

Additional Requirements

  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
  • A valid U.S. Passport is preferred.
  • The technician must obtain and maintain a valid Qatar Residency Visa.
  • The role requires a DoD Secret Clearance that must be maintained.
  • The technician must work in dust, high temperatures, weather, hazardous conditions, and long-hour environments.

Travel and Deployment

  • Travel is 100% in the deployed location.
