Role Overview
Hatch is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer for energy-sector projects.
The role combines technical leadership, project management, client relationship development, and business growth.
Technical Leadership
- Lead Electrical Engineers, Designers, and CAD personnel delivering electrical engineering and design work.
- Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and quality assurance.
- Prepare and review calculations, equipment specifications, vendor documentation, studies, reports, proposals, and project specifications.
- Check vendor drawings and data for compliance with specifications.
- Lead design of hydropower electrical systems, including power-system diagrams, layouts, switchgear, control panels, and power distribution centers.
- Select and size transformers, switchgear, and control panels.
- Develop commissioning procedures and perform or supervise commissioning testing.
- Support SCADA and other plant control system design and operation.
Project Management
- Serve as Project Manager or Engineering Lead on selected projects.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, metrics, risks, and issues.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain effective communication with client stakeholders.
- Visit project sites and other Hatch offices when required.
Business Development
- Manage client relationships, identify opportunities, and maintain ongoing client engagement.
- Support proposals through scope definition, estimating, and client presentations.
- Help develop strategic plans for market growth and represent the firm at industry events and client meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration in Ontario or another Canadian province.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, preferably in EPCM industrial or energy projects.
- Project management and/or client-facing experience.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards.
- Strong understanding of SPEL, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or ASPEN.
- Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, and advanced computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and dynamic environments.
Hydropower Focus
- Hydropower industry experience is an asset.
- The role may involve SCADA, plant control systems, Connection Impact Assessments, and System Impact Assessments.
Compensation
- The stated base salary range is $86,000 to $135,000.
- Individual compensation depends on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
