Role overview

Education in Emergencies Officer responsible for implementing, coordinating, and monitoring education activities for displaced, forcibly returned, and other vulnerable children in Artibonite, Haiti.

The role reports to the Emergency Education Coordinator and covers Gros Mornes, Saint Michel de l’Attalaye, and Saint Marc.

The Officer represents Plan in education meetings and coordinates with education, child protection, and other technical sectors.

Planning and implementation

  • Plan weekly and quarterly education activities and prepare terms of reference and budgets.
  • Conduct school needs assessments, community risk mapping, and school safety planning.
  • Facilitate teacher training on emergency education, psychosocial support, teacher wellbeing, and child protection.
  • Plan and monitor formal and non-formal education, accelerated learning, catch-up classes, tutoring, reintegration, and social-emotional learning.
  • Support inclusive education and child participation and distribute school and teaching kits.

Community and team coordination

  • Organize community awareness campaigns on the right to education and inclusive education with parent committees.
  • Mobilize teachers and learners and maintain professional relationships with education authorities, teachers, community relays, and pedagogical advisers.
  • Collaborate with education, child protection, health, women’s empowerment, and other programme teams.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings and provide technical guidance and support to team members.

Reporting and monitoring

  • Collect monitoring and evaluation data to support project proposals and programme decisions.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, and other activity reports covering results, good practices, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure continuity of education interventions during rapid assessment, response, and follow-up.
  • Monitor programme quality, child participation, and compliance with INEE Minimum Standards and other relevant standards.

Qualifications and experience

  • University degree in education sciences.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the local context and familiarity with the Haitian education system.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet.

Core competencies

  • Excellent oral and written French communication skills.
  • Good organizational, writing, planning, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team, coordinate multiple tasks, work under pressure, and solve problems.
  • Good interpersonal relationships, professional conduct, and initiative.
