Role overview

Education in Emergencies Assistant supporting education activities for displaced, forcibly returned, and other vulnerable children in Artibonite, Haiti.

The role reports to the Education in Emergencies Officer and requires regular presence in Gros Mornes, Saint Michel de l’Attalaye, or Saint Marc.

The position supports coordinated, effective education and protection programming with local education stakeholders and project teams.

Planning and implementation

  • Support preparation, planning, budgeting, and implementation of emergency education activities.
  • Conduct school needs assessments, community risk mapping, and school safety planning with protection and sector teams.
  • Support teacher training, community mobilization, inclusive education, accelerated learning, catch-up classes, and reintegration activities.
  • Visit project sites regularly and monitor participation, quality, child protection, and teacher wellbeing.
  • Distribute school and teaching kits and prepare materials required for activities.

Coordination and integration

  • Coordinate with education authorities, teachers, community relays, pedagogical advisers, parent committees, and other project sectors.
  • Organize community awareness campaigns on the right to education and inclusive education.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings and support positive professional relationships within the team.
  • Mobilize teachers and learners and contribute to integrated education, health, protection, and women’s empowerment programming.

Reporting and monitoring

  • Collect and verify monitoring and evaluation data and maintain registers and attendance lists.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, and other activity reports covering results, good practices, and lessons learned.
  • Support continuity of education interventions during rapid assessment, response, and follow-up.
  • Help ensure compliance with INEE Minimum Standards and other relevant sector standards.

Qualifications and experience

  • University degree in education sciences.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the local context and familiarity with the Haitian education system.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet.

  • Excellent oral and written French communication skills.
  • Good organizational, writing, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team, coordinate multiple tasks, work under pressure, and solve problems.
  • Good interpersonal relationships, professional conduct, and initiative.
