JOB SUMMARY

The District Manager is a hybrid field-leadership role responsible for the performance of an assigned district of retail locations while personally serving as the General Manager of one designated “home” location. The District Manager leads and coaches the General Managers of the other stores within the district, drives district-wide sales, profitability, compliance, and customer experience, and directly oversees the day-to-day retail and sales operations of their home location. All District Manager duties and responsibilities must be executed with commitment to the values of Ascend Wellness Holdings and its subsidiaries, and in a manner that supports our team, customers, and communities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES – DISTRICT OVERSIGHT

  • Serve as the General Manager of an assigned home location while simultaneously providing operational leadership and oversight to the General Managers of all other stores within the assigned district
  • Monitor P&L reports for each store in the district and develop effective ways to close any gaps between actual performance and company projections
  • Prioritize district performance issues to ensure that matters most directly affecting profitability are addressed first
  • Immediately address any lapses in compliance with corporate policies or local, state, and federal laws at any location within the district
  • Ensure district-wide customer satisfaction and product quality standards
  • Act as a coach and mentor to the General Managers within the district, and as a resource to store employees to help inspire the success of each location
  • Oversee all aspects of retail performance across the district, ensuring efficient and sound operations, maximum profitability, and a best-in-class store experience at every location
  • Establish and ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are tracked and maintained at all district locations
  • Analyze existing product performance, customer insights, and individual store KPIs to anticipate market trends and opportunities across the district
  • Partner on the purchasing and procurement of product mixes per location, and help set pricing and promotional strategies for district stores
  • Maintain an active, visible presence across all district locations and provide support for in-store events
  • Prepare and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales reports for the district
  • Partner with the Regional Retail Director and Senior Leadership to support the opening of new retail locations within the district, including budgeting, staffing plans, POS implementation and training, and physical presence during store set-up and opening
  • Collaborate with product and marketing teams on merchandising plans, product allocation, promotional signage, and social media strategies for district locations
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders and General Managers to monitor inventory, staffing, and other critical operational functions to optimize performance across the district
  • Partner with Compliance and Human Resources to implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures at all district locations, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal laws

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES – HOME LOCATION (AS GENERAL MANAGER)

  • Hire a diverse staff for the home location by recruiting top talent with a diverse set of skills among candidates
  • Provide consistent, focused coaching and mentorship to the home location team to drive desired behaviors and maximize staff success
  • Work with Human Resources and Training to ensure consistent onboarding, training, and professional development is delivered at the home location
  • Work with the Assistant General Manager to create work schedules, plan and organize employee workload and assignments, evaluate employee performance, and administer progressive discipline as needed at the home location
  • Analyze key business metrics for the home location, create action plans, and achieve buy-in from the team
  • Lead weekly manager’s meetings and monthly team meetings at the home location to ensure clear, consistent communication
  • Maintain effective P&L management of the home location by driving sales growth and managing expenses, budgets, deposits, and accounts receivable
  • Oversee execution of all retail operations at the home location, including workforce management and inventory reconciliation
  • Ensure all technology and POS solutions at the home location are functioning as designed
  • Work with Security and Compliance to ensure diversion, theft, and loss-prevention policies and practices are followed at the home location
  • Maintain expertise in state-specific cannabis rules, regulations, and laws; execute and enforce compliance at the home location
  • Develop and drive proactive internal compliance controls and processes, and work with the Director of Compliance to keep home location employees current on regulatory changes
  • Foster positive, productive relationships with key regulators, inspectors, and law enforcement personnel
  • Ensure all required state and company reports and audits for the home location are completed on time
  • Maintain a consistent focus on customer loyalty and create engaging, resonant customer experiences at the home location
  • Ensure the home location’s appearance always comports with corporate standards
  • Oversee and sign off on product buys from wholesale partners for the home location
  • Ensure the home location’s retail website and live menu are up to date and reflect brand standards
  • Lead and champion innovation in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Retail Director or Corporate Management Team

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years’ experience in lieu of degree, in a multi-unit or senior supervisory retail management role, specifically with POS business operations, inventory control systems, and strong retail business acumen
  • 3+ years of retail cannabis management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing high-volume single or multiple retail locations with full P&L responsibility
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Cannabis industry experience required; must be and remain compliant with all regulatory requirements for working in the cannabis industry
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a Registered Agent Card issued by the state of operation
  • Must pass any and all required background checks
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, state-specific cannabis laws and regulatory compliance
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication, critical-thinking, and presentation skills, including the ability to provide written and verbal direction effectively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and prioritize workload to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines
  • Must be a collaborative team player who can both nurture and develop store-level management across multiple locations
  • Proven leadership ability, as well as strength in building internal partnerships
  • Ability to think strategically and develop achievable long-term goals for the district
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills to successfully implement initiatives from initial idea through execution
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Exceptional customer service skills and excellent conflict resolution ability, including the ability to manage difficult or sensitive situations
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel regularly among assigned district locations; hours and days of availability may fluctuate during times of greater demand
  • Self-starter, highly resourceful, and capable of operating at a high level with little supervision
  • Understanding of applicable state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes, and organizational policies and procedures
  • High professional standards regarding customer service and confidentiality
  • Must have a flexible schedule with open availability to work
