Role Overview

Mace is delivering a major Saudi Arabian mixed-use development programme with sports, entertainment, arts, and associated infrastructure.

The Director of Systems and Rolling Stock will provide technical vision, engineering leadership, and governance for a fully automated GoA4 driverless rail system.

The role is client-side and bridges master planning with core rail systems in a developer-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the technical integrity of railway subsystems across concept, design management, procurement, and integration.
  • Act as technical authority for GoA4 signaling, CBTC, rolling stock, power supply and traction, telecommunications, SCADA, and depot equipment.
  • Lead integration of rail infrastructure with master-planned developer sectors and coordinate civil, structural, and architectural interfaces.
  • Manage international engineering consultants, PMOs, and specialized shadow operators against deliverables, quality, and timelines.
  • Establish technical review gateways, RAMS safety assurance protocols, and configuration control boards.
  • Ensure systems engineering processes comply with international standards and local regulations.
  • Identify technical risks and conduct value engineering without compromising safety, capacity, or performance.
  • Coordinate rail alignments, station footprints, and utility corridors with real estate development teams.
  • Resolve technical conflicts between transit systems and real estate assets while protecting operational performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering.
  • Recognised professional membership and Chartered Engineer status or an equivalent internationally recognised professional registration.
  • Twenty years of relevant land transport design, construction, and/or operations and maintenance experience.
  • At least five years of senior leadership experience in a major-project environment.
  • Proven delivery experience with fully automated, driverless rail transit systems using GoA4 or CBTC.
  • Deep understanding of rolling stock procurement, systems integration, and automated depot operations.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety assurance evidence in safety-critical transport environments.
  • Experience in developer-led, giga-project, or complex multi-stakeholder real estate environments.

Advantageous Experience

  • A master's degree or relevant professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer or PMP is highly advantageous.
  • Middle East experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with Saudi Arabian or wider GCC regulatory, environmental, and supply chain conditions is preferred.

Company Values

Mace promotes safety, client focus, integrity, and opportunities for people to excel.

The organisation emphasises safe and inclusive work, quality deliverables, compliance, long-term client relationships, and continuous improvement.
