Requirements

- Minimum of 8 10 years of progressive engineering experience within luxury hospitality environments
- At least 3 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role
- Proven experience managing large scale hotel engineering operations
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, BMS, and energy management systems
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Role Overview
- The Director of Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and continuous improvement of all engineering functions within the hotel.
- This role oversees the maintenance and reliability of the property's physical assets, including building infrastructure, MEP systems, HVAC, fire and life safety systems, energy management systems, and all back of house facilities.
- As a member of the Executive Committee, the Director of Engineering collaborates closely with hotel leadership to align engineering objectives with overall business goals.
Engineering Operations & Technical Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all engineering and maintenance operations across the property.
- Direct the operation, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, refrigeration systems, electrical distribution networks, generators, UPS systems, plumbing infrastructure, water treatment systems, swimming pool systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, elevators,
- Establish and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure optimal equipment reliability and minimize operational disruptions.
- Monitor engineering performance indicators, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement corrective actions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer recommendations.
Asset Management & Capital Planning
- Develop and execute long term engineering strategies aligned with the hotel's business objectives and brand standards.
- Lead the development and execution of the annual Engineering Business Plan and departmental objectives.
- Prepare, justify, and manage the annual engineering operating budget and capital expenditure plans.
- Develop and maintain a 5 to 10 year asset replacement strategy for major plant and equipment.
- Manage renovation projects, equipment upgrades, and capital improvement initiatives from planning through commissioning.
- Supervise contractors, consultants, and project teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to required specifications.
Financial Management
- Monitor departmental expenditures and maintain effective control over engineering operating costs.
- Analyze financial reports, payroll summaries, utility consumption trends, and P&L statements to identify areas for optimization.
- Implement cost saving initiatives related to energy consumption, maintenance practices, procurement strategies, and service agreements.
- Ensure effective inventory management and control of engineering tools, spare parts, and consumables.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
Energy & Sustainability Management
- Lead energy conservation initiatives aimed at reducing utility consumption while maintaining guest comfort and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and optimize electricity, water, gas, and fuel usage through data driven analysis and system enhancements.
- Promote sustainable engineering practices and support environmental initiatives aligned with corporate sustainability objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance operational performance and reduce environmental impact.
Fire, Life Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable local regulations, Qatar Civil Defence requirements, health and safety standards, environmental regulations, and hotel brand standards.
- Maintain the operational readiness of all fire detection, fire suppression, emergency lighting, evacuation, and life safety systems.
- Oversee the testing, inspection, certification, and maintenance of all statutory systems and equipment.
- Ensure all permits, licenses, certifications, and maintenance records remain current and readily available for audit purposes.
- Serve as the Chairperson of the Emergency Response Team and lead preparedness planning for facility related emergencies.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering management team and technical staff to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Identify training needs and facilitate technical and leadership development initiatives.
- Promote a safe working environment through effective implementation of health and safety practices.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, labor regulations, and disciplinary procedures.
- Encourage employee engagement through open communication, recognition programs, and succession planning initiatives.
Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Support hotel operations by ensuring all guest facing facilities remain in excellent working condition.
- Respond proactively to engineering related guest concerns and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with operational departments to minimize disruption during maintenance activities.
- Drive initiatives that enhance comfort, reliability, and overall guest satisfaction through engineering excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Professional certifications in HVAC, electrical systems, facilities management, energy management, or project management will be considered an advantage.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive engineering experience within luxury hospitality environments, including at least 3–5 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
- Proven experience managing large scale hotel engineering operations, preferably within internationally recognized five star hotels or resorts.
- Demonstrated expertise in preventive maintenance programs, asset lifecycle management, and capital project execution.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, utility optimization programs, and vendor relationships.
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration plants, electrical distribution systems, plumbing systems, water treatment processes, fire and life safety systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), and Energy Management Systems (EMS).
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Thorough understanding of Qatar Civil Defence regulations, local statutory requirements, and international hospitality engineering standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and financial reports.
