Assist the dentist with all clinical aspects within the surgery.

Patient service
- Greet and care for patients politely and courteously.
- Follow emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Promote a professional company image.
- Remain in the surgery to chaperone dentists during patient treatment.
Clinical duties
- Identify and prepare patients for treatment, settle them in the chair, and provide personal protective equipment.
- Provide instruments and materials and assist chair-side during dental procedures.
- Check that laboratory work is available before the patient's arrival.
- Develop and file x-rays while following relevant safety procedures.
- Clean the surgery and sterilize instruments after each patient.
- Dispose of clinical waste in compliance with medical regulations.
- Escort patients from the surgery to reception or the waiting area when necessary.
Equipment and stock control
- Maintain and clean equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
- Use daily and weekly checklists for surgery tasks.
- Switch equipment on at the start of the session and off at the end.
- Monitor stocks, expiry dates, and availability of drugs, materials, and instruments.
- Report expired items to the Manager or Head Dental Assistant.
- Report equipment repairs promptly to the Practice Manager.
Clinical standards
- Maintain effective infection control and handle equipment and materials with care and safety.
- Follow clinical, x-ray safety, clinical waste, and medical regulations.
- Maintain adequate supplies and ensure the surgery is ready and safe before the next patient.
