Job Summary

  • The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing psychiatric disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, behavioral and emotional disorders, tic disorders and Tourette syndrome.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications.
  • Provide psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and family counseling.
  • Educate parents and caregivers about diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, nurses, and school personnel.
  • Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation, self harm, aggression, and psychosis.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME), research, and teaching activities when applicable.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Completion of a residency in Psychiatry.
  • Fellowship or board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Valid medical license or eligibility for licensure (e.g., DOH/HAAD, DHA, or MOH in the UAE).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of post specialty clinical experience (depending on Specialist or Consultant level).
