Position Overview
Chief Accountant responsible for accounting leadership across the GCC, including UAE, KSA, Qatar and Kuwait.
Primary physical base is the UAE, with regional coordination and alignment of GCC AR/AP with the Egypt AR/AP team.
The role owns accounting records, close, reconciliations, controls and management reporting across the assigned scope.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the regional accounting function and ensure complete, accurate and timely books and records.
- Supervise GL, AR, AP, treasury and cost-control resources and provide technical guidance to junior accountants.
- Review receivables, payables, bank, cash, intercompany, tax, payroll and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Coordinate statutory accounting, tax, VAT, WHT, e-invoicing and external audit support.
- Prepare or review management reporting packs, trial balances, balance-sheet schedules and variance explanations.
- Partner with FP&A, Commercial, Operations, Procurement, HR/Payroll, Legal and project teams.
- Act as an escalation point for complex reconciliations, unusual transactions and cross-functional accounting issues.
Close and Reporting
- Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close calendar and submit schedules, journals and reconciliations by deadline.
- Ensure proper cut-off for revenue, costs, AP, AR, payroll, inventory, WIP, accruals, prepayments and other balance-sheet items.
- Investigate unusual balances and material movements and maintain audit-ready working papers.
- Support management, statutory and external reporting requirements.
IFRS and Compliance
- Apply Group accounting policies and relevant IFRS requirements consistently.
- Support IFRS 15 revenue recognition and project accounting where applicable.
- Apply appropriate treatment for provisions, expected credit losses, leases, foreign exchange, inventory, fixed assets and intercompany balances.
- Maintain evidence of local tax, VAT, WHT and e-invoicing compliance and escalate material accounting judgments.
ERP, Data and Automation
- Use Odoo or another ERP as the system of record and maintain dimensions, projects, cost centers, analytic accounts and master data.
- Use Excel and, where available, Power Query, Power Pivot, Tableau or reporting tools to automate reconciliations and recurring reports.
- Participate in ERP testing, UAT, master-data governance and accounting process improvements.
Internal Controls and Risk
- Comply with approval matrices, segregation of duties, access controls and documented accounting procedures.
- Maintain supporting documentation and an audit trail for transactions and adjustments.
- Identify control failures, unusual transactions, duplicate payments, unsupported balances or fraud indicators and escalate them.
- Support internal and external audits and close audit findings within agreed timelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification with IFRS expertise is mandatory.
- Typically 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as Odoo or SAP are relevant to the role.
- Experience with regional accounting teams and GCC or Middle East statutory environments is desirable.
- Fluent professional English is required; Arabic is advantageous for regional roles.
Success Measures
Deliver on-time and accurate monthly closes with high-quality balance-sheet reconciliations.
Maintain strong AR/AP ageing, intercompany settlement accuracy, control compliance and timely audit resolution.
Improve team productivity, process automation and reporting efficiency while protecting financial information.
