Role Overview
- The Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical management for adult cardiac and thoracic conditions including ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, thoracic tumors, aortic pathologies, and complex cardiothoracic disorders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced procedures including coronary artery bypass surgery, valve reconstruction and replacement, thoracic resections, minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures, and complex open heart surgeries while ensuring optimal perioperative outcomes.
- Manage the complete surgical pathway including pre operative risk assessment, operative planning, postoperative critical care coordination, and long term follow up of surgical patients.
- Work collaboratively with interventional cardiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, intensivists, pulmonologists, perfusionists, and multidisciplinary cardiac teams to ensure evidence based and patient centered care.
- Participate actively in heart team meetings, surgical planning conferences, mortality and morbidity reviews, and clinical governance programs aimed at improving quality and patient safety.
- Support the implementation of enhanced recovery protocols, cardiac surgery quality benchmarks, and advanced surgical pathways aligned with international best practices.
- Contribute to academic activities, surgical teaching, research initiatives, and continuous medical education programs while mentoring junior surgeons, fellows, and theatre teams.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations, hospital policies, and international standards of ethics, documentation, and patient safety while contributing to the hospital's positioning as a regional center of excellence in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.
