Business Intelligence Developer

Position and Purpose

BI Solution Design and Reporting

• Design semantic data models using star schemas, relationships, and hierarchies.
• Author DAX measures and calculation groups and build reusable Power Query transformations.
• Develop executive and operational dashboards, parameterized reports, drill-through reports, and paginated reports.
• Work with stakeholders to improve report usability, clarity, and business relevance.

Data and Business Partnership

• Partner with business heads, finance, and operations teams to define requirements, KPIs, and metric definitions.
• Integrate data from SQL Server, APIs, files, and internal business systems.
• Build monitored dataflows and dataset refreshes and collaborate with engineering on upstream data structures.
• Validate data quality, reconciliation, report accuracy, and source-system alignment.

Performance and Governance

• Optimize data models, DAX, queries, dataset size, refresh cost, and report performance.
• Implement row-level security and role-based access and manage Power BI workspaces, apps, and content lifecycle.
• Administer gateways, capacities, scheduled refreshes, deployments, and production operations.
• Enforce data governance, sensitivity labelling, and controlled report sharing.

Documentation and Enablement

• Maintain data dictionaries, metric definitions, model documentation, data lineage, and runbooks.
• Report on BI adoption, usage, and data-quality metrics and support self-service BI enablement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• At least four years of hands-on Power BI solution development experience.
• Deep expertise in DAX, Power Query, data modelling, and advanced SQL.
• Experience delivering executive dashboards and self-service analytics.
• Experience administering Power BI Service, gateways, dataset refreshes, and row-level security.
• Microsoft certifications are advantageous.
• Financial services or regulated-industry experience is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Power BI, DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling, and report design.
• SQL Server and T-SQL, including query performance tuning.
• Power BI Service administration, workspaces, apps, gateways, capacities, and RLS.
• Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, dataflows, Excel, Power Automate, and cloud-native Azure or AWS design are additional areas of familiarity.
