Role Overview
The Lab Operations Lead coordinates physical and virtual lab usage, supports teams using new tools, manages demo and proof-of-concept requests, and builds prototypes and demos for clients.
The role is a hands-on technical practitioner responsible for making the local AI lab operational and productive day to day.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate lab bookings, room readiness, equipment, tooling access, and on-site logistics for workshops and client visits.
- Provide hands-on technical support during workshops using agentic frameworks, prototyping tools, and sandbox environments.
- Triage demo and prototype requests, scope effort, assign build resources, and track delivery.
- Build working demos and proof-of-concept prototypes for agentic AI use cases relevant to the local market and sectors.
- Set up workshop environments, troubleshoot during sessions, and capture build artifacts.
- Maintain tool stacks, sandbox accounts, sample datasets, and reusable scaffolding in alignment with national standards.
- Share prototype patterns, workshop learnings, and reusable components with the national shared asset library.
- Report local lab utilization metrics to the Geo Lab Leader and national team.
What You Bring To The Role
- Have 2–5 years of experience in technical delivery, solutions engineering, data or AI engineering, applied machine learning, full-stack development, or technical consulting.
- Be comfortable working in the terminal and using command-line interfaces across different tools and environments.
- Have experience configuring, troubleshooting, and integrating MCP servers or clients into workflows.
- Have hands-on experience with at least two listed AI technologies or approaches, including LLM APIs, agentic frameworks, Custom GPTs or Copilot Studio, Python prototyping, or vector stores and RAG.
- Be comfortable facilitating client-facing technical workshops, demos, and working sessions.
- Have a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Skills And Competencies
- Work effectively in an integrated development environment, cloud console, and workshop room.
- Explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Manage multiple development projects, sessions, and requests while maintaining clear priorities.
- Apply curiosity and a practical approach to emerging tools and functional solutions.
- Collaborate with CST, Digital and Transformation teams and the national lab team.
Compensation
- The expected base salary range is CAD 80,000 to CAD 100,000, with possible eligibility for bonus awards.
