Job Purpose

Support and ensure the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems, including runway, taxiway, apron lighting, and control and monitoring systems.

Ensure full compliance with aviation safety standards, including those set by the General Civil Aviation Authority and International Civil Aviation Organization, while maintaining high system availability to support safe airport operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems, ensuring continuous availability of runway, taxiway, approach, and apron lighting.
  • Ensure execution of preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities for AGL systems, including constant current regulators (CCR), transformers, lighting circuits, and control systems.
  • Monitor AGL control systems and ensure rapid response to lighting failures or faults affecting airside operations.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for electrical, control, and field lighting system failures.
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, and modification of AGL systems in accordance with airport design standards and ICAO Annex 14 requirements.
  • Ensure proper calibration, alignment, and photometric performance of airfield lighting systems.
  • Participate in system upgrades, modernization projects, and airfield lighting improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct inspections of field lighting assets, including cables, pits, transformers, and elevated lighting systems.
  • Operate and monitor AGL control systems, including lighting control and monitoring software.
  • Ensure real-time response to lighting system alarms and faults affecting runway/taxiway operations.
  • Support integration of AGL systems with Air Traffic Control (ATC) operational requirements.
  • Manage maintenance schedules for AGL assets including lamps, CCRs, cables, transformers, and field equipment.
  • Ensure proper inventory control of AGL spare parts and critical components.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and system performance logs.
  • Develop and enforce AGL SOPs, maintenance procedures, and operational guidelines in line with GCAA regulations and airport policies.
  • Ensure governance, risk, and compliance frameworks are effectively implemented within the AGL function.
  • Prepare timely AGL performance reports, downtime logs, risk registers, and project updates for management review.
  • Ensure full compliance with General Civil Aviation Authority regulations and International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 14 standards for Aerodromes.
  • Ensure all AGL activities comply with airside safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and Safety Management System (SMS) procedures.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure hazard identification and risk mitigation in all maintenance activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and identify areas for service enhancement.
  • Support senior management and board-level reporting with accurate insights and strategic recommendations related to AGL operations.

Qualifications, Experiences, & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Control Systems, or related discipline.
  • OEM or equivalent
  • certifications in relevant AGL systems
  • 6 to 8+ years of experience in Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems, electrical maintenance, or airport airside infrastructure (preferably in an international airport environment).
  • Proven experience working with AGL systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Airfield Ground Lighting systems including runway, taxiway, approach, and apron lighting.
  • Understanding of CCRs (Constant Current Regulators), transformers, lighting circuits, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of airfield electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical faults, insulation issues, and lighting control system failures.
  • Knowledge of control and monitoring systems used in AGL operations.
  • Strong understanding of ICAO Annex 14 Aerodromes standards and GCAA airfield regulations.
  • Familiarity with airport Safety Management Systems (SMS) and airside safety procedures.
  • Strong coordination skills with airside operations and ATC stakeholders.
  • Good planning, scheduling, and maintenance coordination abilities.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to be based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
