Position Overview

The AFL Teacher works in the Academic department and reports to the Head of Arabic.

The position is permanent and supports Arabic teaching, pupil progress, wellbeing, and the wider life of the school.

Learning and Teaching

  • Set high expectations, establish a safe and stimulating environment, and promote positive attitudes and behaviour.
  • Support Arabic B and Ab students to reach their potential in IB Group 2.
  • Plan and deliver structured lessons, embed IB pedagogy, and contribute to curriculum and scheme-of-work development.
  • Differentiate teaching for pupils with varied abilities, needs, developmental stages, disabilities, and English language backgrounds.
  • Use formative and summative assessment, IB assessments, data, marking, and feedback to monitor and improve progress.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Manage classes effectively and maintain positive relationships with pupils.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities, curriculum days, department resources, and the wider ethos of the school.
  • Develop professional relationships, deploy support staff, and undertake professional development.
  • Communicate with parents about pupils’ achievements and wellbeing.
  • Complete reasonable teacher duties and maintain regular, punctual attendance.

Health and Safety

  • Promote responsible attitudes toward personal safety, the safety of others, and school property.
  • Perform playground duties and take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow school health and safety rules, procedures, and student conduct policies.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in teaching from an accredited institution is required.
  • Required teaching certification for Qatar MOEHE is required.
  • Candidates must meet the school’s professional teacher education requirements and child care and protection expectations.
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience is required.
  • Previous IB Arabic A, B, or Ab teaching at IBDP level is ideal.

Knowledge and Competencies

  • English is mandatory, with excellent spoken and written command.
  • Strong knowledge of IB Arabic, including the Arabic B and Ab syllabi, is required.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods, curriculum developments, teaching theory, behaviour management, safeguarding, and child welfare is required.
  • Strong communication, presentation, organization, data collection, record keeping, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required.
  • Computer competency with word processing and spreadsheet applications is required.

Professional Conduct and School Principles

Teachers must maintain ethical conduct, professional boundaries, pupil safeguarding, respect, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.

Staff are expected to support inclusion, continuous learning, school improvement, and the wellbeing and safety of children and students.
