Key Responsibilities

  • Working in a boutique financial services branch that specializes in liaising with the health entities (such as Acute Care Alberta, Health Shared Services, and Health Quality Alberta) and has the mandate to identify and solve financial issues. This position provides strategic financial analysis and advice to support priorities for the ministry.

Key Duties include

  • Lead and support acute care financial services branch for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and fiscal strategy.
  • Analyze financial performance, monitor expenditures, and provide recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and contribute to Treasury Board submissions, Cabinet materials, business plans, and other executive decision documents.
  • Identify financial risks, pressures, and mitigation strategies, and provide strategic advice to leadership.
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with government legislation, policies, and accountability requirements.
  • Coordinate Access to Information Act (ATI) requests and support executive correspondence and briefing processes.
  • Review and assess reports, correspondence, and briefing materials to identify risks and support effective decision-making.

Education and Experience

University graduation in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets

Strong strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.

Experience providing financial support in a public-sector, government, and/or health-sector environment.

Experience with operating and capital budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Experience contributing to business plans, Treasury Board submissions, Cabinet materials, and corporate reporting.

Experience in drafting briefing notes and responses to Action Requests.

Experience with grants, financial compliance, and/or Public-Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).

Experience using enterprise-level financial systems and applying internal control or risk-management frameworks.

36.25 hours per week

Location: 26th floor of ATB House (10020 100 street, Edmonton, T5J 0N3)

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
