About the opportunity

Pacific National is seeking a Workforce Coordinator for its Intermodal team in North Sydney.

The role offers a pathway into the rail and logistics industry, with full training and ongoing support provided.

The coordinator helps allocate rail crew and equipment across a large national freight operation.

What you will do

  • Coordinate and allocate more than 500 train crew, 1,400 wagons and 130 locomotives according to daily operational plans.
  • Maintain and update crew rosters as operational requirements change.
  • Work with internal teams to place people and assets at the right locations and times.
  • Monitor operations, identify disruptions and support solutions to keep freight moving.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Help ensure compliance with safety, operational and industrial requirements.

What you will bring

  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Clear verbal, written and digital communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn complex operational systems and rostering tools.
  • Ability to remain organized and make sound decisions in a busy, time-critical environment.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Interest in transport, logistics, rail operations, workforce planning or monitoring-based work.
  • Previous labour planning, rostering systems or heavy-industry exposure is advantageous but not essential.

Roster

  • The role follows a rotating lifestyle roster with 12-hour day and night shifts.
  • A typical rotation is four days on and five off, five days on and four off, followed by five days on and five off.

Location

  • The position is based in North Sydney.
