Role overview
The Mechanical Work Preparator is responsible for work preparation activities related to mechanical, machining, and repair work in a shipyard and rig repair environment.
The role includes defining work scope, estimating labor and duration, preparing drawings and material requirements, tracking work progress, and closing related documentation.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate repair specifications, itemize man-hours and repair duration, prepare bills of materials, and requisition materials when required.
- Submit proposals and drawings for approval, prepare sketches, obtain client signatures, and distribute approved documents.
- Prepare material lists, confirm availability from the warehouse or direct purchase, and optimize material usage to reduce waste.
- Prepare job sheets, record daily progress, develop work descriptions, and produce completion reports and certificates.
- Update vessel files and compare as-fitted mechanical work with the initial scope for commercial purposes.
- Prepare outsourced work scopes, work packages, and specifications, and liaise with operations project controls and engineering.
- Provide man-hour estimates and job progress to production planning twice weekly and attend daily progress meetings with owners representatives and project managers.
- Close relevant goods receipt and service receipt records on time for project cost capture.
