Role Overview

Build new features and influence the architecture of LMI's GoPxL platform for industrial 3D machine vision.

Develop algorithms and signal-processing logic that enable optical hardware to see, calibrate, and align with millimeter precision.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize 3D computer vision algorithms, point cloud processing, structured light logic, optical calibration, and sensor alignment routines in C++.
  • Drive algorithm features from mathematical concept and prototype through production deployment on sensor hardware.
  • Solve optical distortion, multi-camera alignment, phase-shifting, and noise-filtering problems across Windows and embedded Linux.
  • Translate customer inspection requirements into technical user stories with Product Management, Vision Specialists, and Application Engineers.
  • Validate algorithms on real 3D hardware, write GoogleTest unit tests, participate in code reviews, and ensure mathematical repeatability.
  • Collaborate with firmware, application, and QA automation teams to support full-stack integration.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience focused on C++ application development.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Geomatics, Optics, Physics, or a related quantitative engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of modern C++14/17/20, STL, object-oriented design, and memory management.
  • Understanding of 3D geometry, linear algebra, matrix transformations, point clouds, camera projection models, and sensor calibration.
  • Ability to optimize computational routines for high throughput, low latency, and low memory overhead.
  • Experience with Git, CMake, unit testing frameworks such as GoogleTest, and debugging tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a desire to work in an Agile team.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with structured light, laser triangulation, time-of-flight, or line confocal sensor geometry.
  • Familiarity with OpenCV, PCL, Eigen, Halcon, MIL, or other computer vision libraries.
  • Experience prototyping algorithms in Python, MATLAB, or C# before production implementation in C++.
  • Interest or experience using AI tools to improve workflows while maintaining production-grade output.

Compensation

  • Salary range is $93,000 CAD to $136,000 CAD.
  • Eligible employees may participate in a profit-sharing program after successful completion of probation, subject to business performance.

Benefits and Perks

  • Full health care coverage with paid premiums, including dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage for employees and families.
  • Hybrid work arrangements, flextime, and paid time off are offered.
  • Education support, professional development, performance reviews, wellness initiatives, and onsite recreational facilities are available.

Workplace

  • This is a hybrid position based at LMI's Burnaby, British Columbia headquarters.
  • The collaborative work model expects office presence on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with preference for local candidates.
