Role Overview
South Shore Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.
The role provides variety across patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows.
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry.
- Provide safe and gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care.
- Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures.
- Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately.
- Build positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service.
- Maintain clean, organized, and prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces.
Compensation
- Compensation is $19 to $25 per hour for each hour worked.
- Pay within the range may depend on work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
- This is a full-time position with a four-day, ten-hour schedule.
- Availability is needed Monday through Friday, with no weekend shifts.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role is preferred.
- Ability to assist with examinations, treatments, and outpatient procedures.
- Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs is preferred.
- Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
- Strong prioritization, multitasking, organizational, and time management skills.
- Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members.
- Ability to collaborate with a team, maintain dependable attendance, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and safely restrain patients throughout the workday.

The hospital balances scheduled appointments, surgery, and urgent care and offers expertise in urgent care, behavior, orthopedics, surgery, cardiology, nutrition, and dermatology.
