Utility Systems Operator (USO) Trainee Liquid Waste (multiple positions)

Position Status: Full-Time Temporary (positions to last not later than December 31, 2026 with possibility of extension) Department: Liquid Waste Services Employee Group: GVRDEU Location: Production Way Operations Centre, Burnaby and South Fraser Works Yard, Surrey Salary Range/ Wage Rate: $32.84 hourly plus 6.25% deferred compensation (2024 wage rates) This role receives an additional 6.25% deferred compensation on hours worked. The additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off.

The Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking USO Trainees, Liquid Waste, who demonstrates a strong team-oriented mindset, a commitment to safety, and an eagerness to learn. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about supporting Metro Vancouver’s sewer and drainage systems and who contribute positively to a diverse and collaborative work environment.

You are a dedicated team player who brings a positive and respectful attitude to every task. You are motivated to learn, willing to work hard, and comfortable collaborating with others. You have completed Grade 12, possess mechanical aptitude with a variety of tools and equipment, have experience in construction or the trades, and are proficient with computers.

This role: (The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all inclusive.)

Works in the operation, inspecting and maintaining of wastewater collection and drainage system facilities.

Assists in inspection and maintenance of equipment.

Assists in performing system facility inspections and cleaning.

Performs general repairs, housekeeping, painting, etc.

Performs maintenance tasks including gravel, debris and windfall removal, brush cutting, vegetation management, slope and bank stability, beaver dam removal etc.

Operates power tools, mowers, chain saws, jackhammers, and vehicles and equipment to fulfill the needs of the position.

Performs construction duties such as sanitary/storm sewer repairs, raising and rebuilding of manholes, sanitary/storm sewer connections, road building and watercourse rehabilitation works.
