Tunnel Engineer

FCC Construcción has been present in Canada for more than 25 years involved in innovative subway infrastructure work like the Highway 407 stations and Northern Tunnels from the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fredericton Moncton Highway.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tunnel Shift Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical support during night-shift tunnel construction activities. The role supports the safe and efficient execution of tunnelling works, coordinates field activities, monitors progress and quality, and ensures work is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and project requirements.

The key responsibilities are:

Provide engineering support to night-shift tunnel construction activities.

Coordinate and monitor daily tunnelling operations and field activities.

Review drawings, specifications, method statements, and work procedures.

Monitor construction progress, productivity, and work fronts.

Coordinate with supervisors, subcontractors, survey teams, and other disciplines.

Identify technical issues and support timely resolution of field problems.

Verify that construction activities comply with approved designs and project specifications.

Support inspections, quality control, and documentation of completed works.

Monitor quantities, production records, shift reports, and construction data.

Prepare daily shift reports and communicate progress, issues, and constraints to the day-shift/project team.

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Participate in toolbox meetings, site inspections, and coordination meetings as required.

Provide technical input into planning and sequencing of upcoming activities.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience in tunnel construction, underground construction, heavy civil, or major infrastructure projects.

Experience working on night shifts or rotational construction shifts is an asset.

Strong understanding of construction methods, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management systems.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is an asset.
