Technical Supervisor

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Promote safe delivery and compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, and COSHH requirements.
• Manage and supervise FM colleagues, including absence, cover, recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.
• Provide technical guidance on mechanical and electrical systems and act as a first escalation point for maintenance colleagues.
• Undertake the Control of Works Authorised Person role and support identification of Authorised Persons and Competent Persons.
• Coordinate technical meetings and toolbox talks.
• Oversee facilities operations, maintenance, repairs, replacements, consumables, and general upkeep.
• Investigate building faults, make areas safe where necessary, and refer specialist work through the Helpdesk.
• Deliver maintenance to the BT Specification within SI7 and maintain CAFM data and structure.
• Manage subcontractors, quality-check work, and coordinate supplier delivery and performance.
• Ensure statutory compliance, current documentation, audit closeout, and emergency planning.
• Contribute to budgets, monitor inventory, manage asset data and warranties, and coordinate small projects.
• Approve maintenance reporting and KPI validation and escalate operational or customer issues.

Person Specification

• Knowledge of more than one discipline such as mechanical, electrical, public health, water, or gas, with deeper expertise in at least one.
• Trade or professional qualifications supporting technical expertise in a relevant discipline.
• Thorough understanding of health and safety in facilities management and Control of Works processes.
• Proven track record managing front-line technical operations and complex maintenance and repair operations.
• Clear and concise communication, customer awareness, teamwork, and commitment to service delivery.
• Ability to plan, organise, prioritise, and execute work within expected timescales.
• Risk-aware approach with the ability to apply necessary controls.
• Adaptability, self-motivation, initiative, and commitment to ongoing development.
• Ability to produce high-quality reports using Microsoft Office and data from Tableau, SI7, or Power BI.
• Good commercial awareness and financial skills related to operational services.

Site-Based Work

• The role covers a defined cluster of BT sites and includes on-site operations, documentation, maintenance, and facilities support.
• The supervisor provides holiday and sickness cover and supports colleagues during peak workloads.

Technical Systems

• Maintenance delivery is performed to the BT Specification within the SI7 system.
• The role uses CAFM data and structure and may involve support from subject-matter experts in CAFM, fire, water, and QHSE.
• Reporting may require Microsoft Office, Tableau, SI7, and Power BI.
