Job Summary and Purpose

Lead the technical management of LNG/LPG vessels under direct management in a reliable, safe and cost-efficient manner.

Support fleet projects and studies and ensure vessels comply with applicable regulations, legislation, class requirements and industry standards.

Technical Management and Maintenance

  • Maintain technical and operational standards and use performance data to support industry-wide vessel benchmarks.
  • Develop ship-management policies and procedures and ensure approval through the management-of-change process.
  • Monitor planned maintenance systems and assess new or replacement vessel equipment and systems.
  • Provide expert marine engineering advice and resolve technical issues, improvements and modifications.

Financial and Procurement Support

  • Prepare vessel budgets, track actual-cost variances and control expenditures while maintaining operational standards.
  • Participate in equipment, spare-parts and support-service tenders and review contractor and service-provider invoices.

Regulatory, Safety and Emergency Response

  • Ensure vessels maintain valid certificates and surveys and comply with class, flag, regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct safety and technical audits, vessel vetting, incident-investigation tracking, risk assessments and contingency planning.
  • Support the Company Incident Commander and provide emergency response for vessel or company incidents.

Dry Docking and Relationships

  • Prepare, arrange and review dry-docking specifications and documentation and monitor repair safety, quality, accuracy and schedules.
  • Maintain interactions with third-party managers, owners, ship managers, authorities, classification societies, vendors and service providers.
  • Monitor ship staff performance and coordinate appraisals with the Marine Personnel Department.

Competencies and Technical Skills

  • Required capabilities include project management, budget construction, engineering troubleshooting, people management and negotiation.
  • The role requires knowledge of large gas-carrier operations, cargo containment and handling systems, propulsion plants and marine regulations.
  • Additional competency areas include HSSEQ and security management, maintenance management, regulatory knowledge and emergency response.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Marine Engineering degree, preferably in motors and steam, or an equivalent relevant degree.
  • Experience as Chief Engineer aboard LNG/LPG carriers or equivalent large-scale LNG/LPG repair and maintenance management experience.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of overall experience with at least 2 years in a relevant supervisory or equivalent capacity.

Reporting and Work Context

  • Reports to the Head of Technical and has no direct reportees.
  • The role includes periodic ship visits, vessel inspections, dry-docking attendance and interaction with fleet stakeholders.
