What You'Ll Be Doing
- Review work produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed and quality is acceptable.
- Monitor productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel.
- Make staffing assignments and reassignments as project needs arise.
- Conduct performance evaluations, take corrective action as necessary, recommend promotions and salary actions, and recommend training and development for assigned personnel.
- Help define discipline design organization and participation on a project, including scope of work, design criteria, schedules, standards, and procedures.
- Determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
- Supervise the production of project drawings and design calculations.
- Promote technical excellence on the project, including furthering the Quality Improvement Process.
- Ensure that discipline design work is coordinated with project staff and engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.
- Advise engineering and project management regarding any problem areas, staffing requirements, delays in production, scope changes, or other events which could affect project completion and/or profitability.
- Initiate and/or review change order requests for additions, deletions, or changes to the original scope of work.
- Ensure that adequate checking is performed in accordance with discipline checking policy and procedures.
- Recommend design methods, software tools, and equipment use, etc., for discipline standards, including the application of advanced structural analysis platforms.
- Maintain affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
- Recommend and prepare technical papers.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'Ll Bring
- Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Engineering.
- 20 years of related work experience in structural design.
- Related work experience in prominent consultancy firms with specific experience in structural design.
- Substantial experience in design of transportation structures such as bridges and underpasses.
- Substantial experience in design of infrastructure-related buildings such as large-scale tank/pump stations and substations.
- Candidate must have UPDA Registration or be eligible and able to obtain the registration within months of onboarding.
- International professional registration such as PE, CEng, or PEng is required.
- Intimate knowledge of structural design principles.
- Strong experience with structural analysis and design software such as MIDAS, CSI Bridge, ETABS, SAP 2000, SOFiSTiK
- Ability to perform hands-on detailed technical review of engineering deliverables including structural analysis models, design calculations, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Ability to perform constructability reviews to:
- Identify advantages and disadvantages of proposed construction methodologies.
- Confirm feasibility considering spatial, operational, technical, schedule, and budgetary constraints.
- Confirm the incorporation of construction effects into the design of structures.
- Ability to guide a large technical team to produce deliverables for multiple large projects on time and in good quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent report writing skills to independently produce logical, well-organized, and grammatically correct technical reports and letters directed to clients and authorities.
- Excellent presentation skills to convey the message clearly and succinctly.
What Desired Skills You'Ll Bring
- Master s degree in Structural Engineering.
- Experience in the Qatar or GCC region with major infrastructure or transportation programs.
- Experience leading structural design on design build, PPP, or other alternative delivery projects.
- Proven experience implementing or overseeing digital design and BIM workflows for structural engineering.
- Experience in seismic design, complex foundations, or long-span / complex bridge structures.
- Ability to take a leadership role in proposal preparations, including defining technical approaches, resource plans, and schedules.
- Ability to review various multidisciplinary documents and objectively assess the technical validity and coordination of the contents.
- Active participation in professional societies, technical committees, or standards development.
- Record of published technical papers, conference presentations, or internal best-practice guidelines.
