Overview

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Steward to join our operations team.

The role is suited to individuals who take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation, enjoy working as part of a team and have a practical approach to facilities and equipment care.

This position is open to applicants from all backgrounds and is gender neutral.

Key Responsibilities For Steward

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in back-of-house areas including kitchens, sculleries, storage rooms and staff welfare facilities, ensuring standards are met throughout the working day and during deep-clean schedules.
  • Operate dishwashing machinery and hand-wash items as required, ensuring crockery, cutlery, glassware and cookware are cleaned, sanitised and stored correctly for immediate use.
  • Manage waste handling and recycling procedures, remove refuse to designated areas, monitor waste segregation and report any issues with disposal or pests to the supervisor.
  • Assist with delivery handling and stock rotation for dry goods, chilled and frozen stores; check deliveries against paperwork, store items to correct temperatures and label/prep items according to company procedures.
  • Support kitchen colleagues by replenishing mise en place items, stacking and returning serviceware, and assisting with basic food preparation tasks within hygiene guidelines when required.
  • Ensure all equipment, glassware and service kit are maintained in good working order; report faults promptly and assist with routine cleaning and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Follow COSHH, health and safety and hygiene procedures at all times, including correct use of cleaning chemicals, PPE and safe manual handling techniques.
  • Participate in stock counts and basic inventory control to assist with ordering and reduce waste; accurately record shortages or discrepancies and communicate with supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to support smooth service flow, respond to short-notice requests and accommodate operational needs.
  • Take part in training, induction and regular refresher sessions on hygiene, safety and equipment use; contribute to continuous improvement of cleaning schedules and service standards.
