Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering.
- Other engineering disciplines are not preferred in the source.
- At least five years of experience in the steel structure fabrication industry.
Cost Estimation
- Prepare material take-offs from drawings, bills of materials, and client technical documents.
- Calculate material weight and surface area for structural profiles.
- Estimate material, fastener, leftover, scrap, production, painting, galvanizing, overhead, packing, and transportation costs.
- Apply profit margins and calculate final unit rates and total project prices.
Techno-Commercial Offers
- Prepare offers covering scope of work, material specifications, fasteners, fabrication and welding procedures, inspection, QA/QC, finishing, installation, commercial terms, pricing, and exclusions.
- Coordinate with sales, design, production, procurement, planning, and QA/QC departments.
Preferred Knowledge
- Preparation of material submittals for client approval and compliance statements is preferred.
- Knowledge of steel properties, grades, and chemical and mechanical characteristics is required.
- Knowledge of ASTM, BS/EN, JIS, DIN, and other international standards is required.
- Knowledge of paint selection, fireproofing, heat insulation, environmental protection, and hot-dip galvanizing requirements is required.
- Knowledge of production time studies and fabrication productivity estimation is preferred.
