Role Overview

The Cloud Platform team builds systems that Amplitude engineers rely on to ship code and is rebuilding them for the AI era.

Set technical direction for the platform, lead high-complexity initiatives, and shape a platform where AI agents work alongside humans.

Partner across engineering teams to make Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure easier to use across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and lead cross-cutting initiatives that improve developer experience, reliability, security, and cost.
  • Resolve ambiguous problems, validate assumptions, align stakeholders, and drive cross-team decisions to closure.
  • Build AI-augmented tooling, guardrails, policy-as-code, and infrastructure primitives that agents can safely use.
  • Own Infrastructure-as-Code standards for Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP using Terraform, Helm, and Kustomize.
  • Evolve CI/CD standards using Argo CD, Argo Workflows, Argo Rollouts, and GitHub Actions.
  • Drive observability with Datadog and Amplitude, set SLOs, and own dashboards.
  • Lead response to complex cross-system P0 incidents and turn postmortems into durable improvements.
  • Address architectural debt and evaluate when systems should evolve, be re-platformed, or be deprecated.
  • Develop proposals and proofs of concept for high-leverage platform opportunities.
  • Mentor engineers, improve team leverage, contribute to hiring practices, and connect platform investments to customer and business needs.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8 or more years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering with deep hands-on cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience leading high-complexity, cross-team infrastructure initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Deep production experience operating Kubernetes and containerized applications at meaningful scale.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one language; Golang or Python is preferred.
  • Fluency with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling, including Terraform.
  • Strong command of AWS core services, networking, and security fundamentals.
  • GCP and/or Azure experience is a plus.
  • Deep familiarity with GitOps workflows and the CNCF ecosystem, including Argo, Helm, Backstage, or Envoy.
  • Experience setting technical standards adopted by other teams without direct authority.
  • Strong communication, collaborative problem-solving, ambiguity navigation, and continuous-learning skills.

Compensation

  • The role is eligible for equity, benefits, and other forms of compensation.
  • Colorado total target cash range is $198,000–$299,000, inclusive of bonus or commission.
  • New York City and San Francisco Bay Area total target cash range is $220,000–$331,000, inclusive of bonus or commission.
  • California outside the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington state total target cash range is $198,000–$299,000, inclusive of bonus or commission.

Washington Benefits

  • Washington employees receive unlimited PTO, 10 to 13 holidays annually, medical, dental, and vision plans, and a company-sponsored 401(k) plan.
