Responsibilities
- Provide age specific patient centered care utilizing the nursing process
- Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem focused, and age specific techniques
- Perform continual critical care assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs
- Involve patient, significant others, and health care providers in the plan of care when appropriate
- Collaborate with a multi disciplinary team to provide patient care
- Coordinate and plan critical care/clinical pathway, and prioritize care based on individual needs
- Initiate appropriate transfer plan
- Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems
- Document all relevant data in the medical record according to hospital/departmental standards
- Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care
- Perform safe handling and administration of Narcotic/Controlled and Semi Controlled Drugs
- Participate in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities
Requirements
- Nursing degree and valid license
- Completion of unit competencies (e.g., pain management, emergency department devices)
- Completion of yearly critical care nursing competencies (basic)
- Completion of mandatory education (fire, safety, infection control, etc.)

Key Responsibilities

- Ensures availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care.
- Performs clerical duties when needed.
- Assumes responsibility for meeting Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) required mandatory education (e.g. fire, safety, infection control and others).
