Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect age specific care for assigned patients in the ICU
- Perform advanced physical assessment and interpret ABG and ECG
- Monitor hemodynamics including arterial and central venous pressure
- Manage mechanically ventilated patients including suctioning and weaning
- Care for central venous access devices and chest tubes
- Administer medications and perform procedural sedation
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities

- Experience in ICU nursing

- Knowledge of JCI standards

Job Overview
- Provides direct and indirect age specific care for assigned patients in the Intensive Care Unit per scheduled shifts.
- Responsible for professional performance and safe patient care.
- Abides by Joint Commission International (JCI) requirements.
General Responsibilities
- Performs patient assessment using appropriate, problem focused, and age specific techniques.
- Performs continual critical care assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
- Collaborates with a multi disciplinary team to provide patient care.
- Coordinates and plans critical care/clinical pathway and prioritizes care.
- Documents all relevant data in the medical record according to standards.
- Ensures availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Performs safe handling and administration of Narcotic/Controlled Drugs.
- Participates in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Unit Specific Responsibilities
- Performs Advanced Physical Assessment.
- Interprets Arterial Blood Gas (ABG).
- Interprets Basic ECG.
- Monitors Basic Hemodynamics including Arterial Pressure and Central Venous Pressure.
- Operates Bladder Scanner.
- Cares for Implanted Venous Access Devices (IVAD) and Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD).
- Prepares Chest Tubes and monitors drainage system.
- Provides Care for Dying Patients.
- Demonstrates competency in Epidural Management.
- Handles Mechanically Ventilated Patients including suctioning, intubation, and weaning.
- Demonstrates competency in Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) Pump Use.
- Uses Defibrillator for cardioversion, defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing.
