Role Overview
Join SpaceX’s Artificial Intelligence Software Engineering team to solve complex AI data problems for launch vehicles and spacecraft.
Build AI systems that accelerate software development, testing, avionics design, flight data review, logistics, and mission operations.

Responsibilities
- Design and train reliable, scalable AI/ML models for engineers across SpaceX departments.
- Design agentic AI systems and multi-agent workflows for engineering tasks.
- Build and optimize large-scale machine learning training pipelines.
- Develop and fine-tune LLMs, vision models, and multimodal foundation models.
- Create production-grade tools for data analysis, anomaly detection, predictive modeling, and automated decision-making.
- Own the model lifecycle from data preparation and training infrastructure through deployment, monitoring, and improvement.
- Establish standards for validation, safety, reliability, bias mitigation, and data security.
- Test and validate AI systems for accurate, trustworthy, production-ready outputs.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or physics, or 4+ years of relevant AI/ML experience in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of AI software engineering experience focused on model training, fine-tuning, and machine learning systems.
- 5+ years of programming experience in Python.
Preferred Experience
- Expert understanding of LLM transformer architectures, pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience training foundation models and computer vision models at scale.
- Experience with distributed GPU training, hyperparameter optimization, experiment tracking, and MLOps.
- Experience building agentic AI systems, multi-agent workflows, and training data infrastructure.
- Experience deploying containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency developing on Linux systems and using Git, testing, continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring.
Additional Requirement
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Compensation
- The stated base salary range for Software Engineer/Senior is $160,000 to $225,000 per year.
- Actual level and base salary may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

- Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Government export authorization requirements, including qualifying U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, refugee or asylee status, or authorization eligibility.
