Sr. Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails

About the Role

Key Accountabilities

• Contribute to architecture decisions and unblock teammates on the Essentials squad.
• Write maintainable code and elevate quality through code review and pairing.
• Design and optimize backend systems, APIs, and data flows for performance and reliability.
• Build responsive frontend experiences with React, TypeScript, and CSS.
• Write efficient SQL and shape data models across relational databases.
• Lead projects end to end and guide others to successful delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design, and QA on technical solutions.
• Use AI development tools and contribute to shared prompts and agentic workflows.
• Prototype LLM and automation opportunities with safeguards for healthcare data and regulated billing.

Desired Skills and Experience

• At least 7 to 10 years of full-stack development experience, with Ruby on Rails as a core strength.
• Experience with React; five or more years is preferred.
• Experience leading projects from problem breakdown through feature delivery.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding architectural decisions.
• Daily hands-on fluency with AI development tools and judgment about human review.
• Experience or strong demonstrated interest in LLM APIs, prompt design, evaluation, and safety for sensitive data.
• Strong project management skills in planning, estimation, and scoping.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and communicate clearly.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary range is $120,000 to $180,000 USD.
