Role overview
eBay is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Lead Engineer for its AI Research, Innovation division.
The role combines senior technical contribution with leadership of AI Engineers building scalable, reliable, and responsible AI systems.
The systems support millions of users, billions of requests per day, and large-scale GPU clusters.
Core responsibilities
- Lead design, development, and optimization of generative AI, LLM, conversational AI, and agent-based systems.
- Guide architecture, implementation, delivery, mentoring, technical planning, and operational excellence for AI engineering teams.
- Lead agent-led experiences involving task decomposition, memory, tool use, dynamic planning, and multi-agent orchestration.
- Partner with Product, Research, Data Engineering, and Software Engineering teams on AI system design.
- Drive production readiness, reliability, maintainability, scalability, cost efficiency, and responsible AI practices.
Platform and operations
- Contribute reusable components, APIs, frameworks, patterns, and guidelines to eBay's internal GenAI platform.
- Establish practices for evaluation, observability, model integration, experimentation, responsible AI, and production monitoring.
