About the Role
Astra Tech seeks a Software Architect to own backend architecture for next-generation payment systems. You will design scalable, production-ready payment platforms, guide engineering squads, and set technical standards for merchant acquiring and core payment processing.

Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve systems spanning Merchant Management, POS, and eCommerce acceptance
- Own technical architectural direction and design decisions across multiple engineering squads
- Work with Product Owners to translate product intent and regulatory requirements into system designs
- Define integration architecture across card schemes, payment processor, and internal switching layers
- Contribute to critical Java microservice components and lead code/architecture reviews
- Design REST/JSON APIs with idempotency, fault tolerance, and exactly once semantics
- Drive event driven flows using RabbitMQ for transaction lifecycle events
- Design Redis backed patterns for distributed caching, idempotency key management, rate limiting, and real time state
- Use AI coding assistant (Claude Code) for architecture reviews, code generation, and log triage
Requirements
- Deep expertise in Java microservices stack
- Experience with payment systems including merchant acquiring and core payment processing
- Knowledge of ISO 8583 message design
- Experience with REST/JSON API design and event driven architecture
- Familiarity with RabbitMQ and Redis
- Experience with Dubbo or comparable RPC framework
- Ability to mentor engineers and drive technical direction

About The Role

What You'll Do
- Architect and evolve systems spanning Merchant Management, POS, and eCommerce acceptance.
- Own platform architecture across acquiring and adjacent payment services.
- Design for high throughput, low latency, and production first reliability across auth, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation flows.
- Own technical architectural direction and design decisions across multiple engineering squads.
- Lead and mentor a pod of engineers with design quality and delivery accountability.
- Work directly with Product Owners to translate product intent and regulatory requirements into system designs.
- Define integration architecture across card schemes, payment processor, and internal switching layers.
- Stay hands on: contribute to critical Java microservice components, lead code and architecture reviews, resolve complex production issues.
- Design REST/JSON APIs with idempotency, fault tolerance, and exactly once semantics.
- Drive event driven flows using RabbitMQ for transaction lifecycle events.
- Design Redis backed patterns for distributed caching, idempotency key management, rate limiting, and real time state.
- Use Claude Code as AI coding assistant for architecture reviews, code generation, runbook creation, log triage.
