The Shipping Clerk’s primary responsibility is to accurately load the finished product onto trailers for shipping.
The Shipping Clerk utilizes a pick sheet for the specifications and requirements of the contents of each load.
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for using an overhead crane to pull and stage copper material for a load.
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for operating a lift truck to load contents onto trailers using forks and booms.
An average of 8 to 9 trailers are loaded per shift.
Each trailer may have up to 56 boxes or bundles of material.
The Shipping Clerk job consists of the following tasks:
- Operate lift truck with forks to load palletized material boxes onto trailers
- Operate lift truck with boom to load bundles of copper tube or long boxes onto trailers
- Climb and walk on top of bundles of tubes from the floor and hook straps onto lift truck booms
- Read pick sheet for directions of staging each load
- Document material loaded by weight, number of pieces, and length/width/diameter
- Stand in van trailer and climb on material to unhook boxes or bundles
- Lift/Push/Pull ends of bundles or boxes with up to 50 pounds of force
- Use bar to thread straps between long boxes for loading
- Operate overhead crane using remote control box that weighs 6 pounds
- Climb stationery ladder to climb on top of bundles of copper up to 8 feet high
- Climb and walk on top of bundles in order to hook straps to crane hooks while elevated up to 8 feet high
- Walk around large stacks of copper tubes with sharp ends
- Pick up boxes of rolled copper tube that weigh up to 50 pounds (25-40 times per shift)
- Lift and carry and place 25 pound wooden blocks onto flatbed trailer
- Walk on uneven copper tube material on flatbed trailer
- Operate pneumatic hand bander machine that weighs 15 pounds
- Lift LP tank for lift truck that weighs 55 pounds (with assistance) up to shoulder height
- Uncover and cover tarped trailers using overhead crane
- Lift back door and trailer brackets for covered flatbed trailers
- Inspects finished product for damage
